A quick search of the literature reveals this about Eli's hotel:
*He refers to it as a "hotel", but it must have a kitchen with fridge and stove (and free wireless!)
*There is a man at the front desk named "Lito" who Eli hates.
*He pays by the week.
*I had previously thought that he could see a 24-hour IHOP from his window, but he actually remarks that it is "less than a minute walk from my door".
*Someone named Jacob is bringing him groceries from the Richmond, so he must be in San Francisco, or very close.
*On 4/17 he writes, "this new room is not facing the highway so i can actually hear people outside sometimes." Would he consider Lombard Street a highway?
